Current Activities and
Ways You Can Get Involved
TRASH and RECYCLING BINS
In order to increase the recycling rates in Main South and Piedmont neighborhoods, Worcester Common Ground and the Regional Environmental Council got access to some recycling bins we can distribute to residents here. So far recycling bins have been distributed at Elm Park at the 7th Adventist Health Fair, the Family Health Center’s Health Fair, and Oread St.Youth Grow Harvest Festival. If you know of people who need bins and can’t get to the DPW’s customer service office during business hours, contact EJ.
SPANISH LANGUAGE
Ines Berón, Luz Gonzáles, Yolanda Matias translated part of Worcester’s recycling guide into Spanish to give away to neighbors and with recycling bins. If anyone wants a copy of this translated material or wants to help with translation needs in the future, please contact EJ. We can use your help with translation of materials into many languages.

NON TOXIC CLEANERS
REC has found August’s Mr. Ecoclean to promote nontoxic cleaning in the home! Special thanks to Bil Gardiner, Mr. Ecoclean. REC is currently working with local faith based organizations to get the word out about toxics in the home and alternatives to those toxics and how to deal with them. If you belong or know of a faith based group who would like information or a presentation on toxics in the home, contact EJ.
LEAD
EJ has created informational flyers, available in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese about Making Worcester Lead Safe that include contacts and phone numbers for Worcester services to deal with lead paint issues. For information about dealing with lead, contact EJ.
REC participated in a lead press conference last week at Worcester city hall and in the city’s efforts to make Worcester lead safe. To see coverage of the press conference including mother, Rosa Hernandez, whose daughter is recovering from lead poisoning, click on "New program may solve local city's lead problems" on this webpage:
