On Tuesday, June 5, the Massachusetts Audubon Society celebrated the city’s purchase of a 15-acre parcel from the Ball family to connect the trails in Audubon’s Broad Meadow Brook Wildlife Sanctuary with the Blackstone River Bikeway. “This has been a dream for about eight years,” said Deborah D. Cary, Audubon’s director of central sanctuaries.

Congratulations!! Read all about it here.

Alliance for a Healthy Tomorrow Update
By Margot Barnet

REC is a member of the Alliance for a Healthy Tomorrow (AHT), a coalition of about 160 groups around the state who are working together to promote government policy to reduce and prevent harm to our health from toxic materials in our environment.

AHT's priority this year is a bill entitled "An Act for a Healthy Massachusetts:  Safer Alternatives to Toxic Chemicals."  We and all of our coalition partners have been working very hard to get this bill passed this year.  There is a lot of support in the legislature, but the chemical companies are ramping up -- and seem to be twisting arms -- to defeat it.  There is another tool we can use to show our support, and I'd like to ask you to use it.

The new Deval Patrick web site- http://devalpatrick.com -is largely devoted to a process for citizens in Massachusetts to post about issues that are important to them and organize support for their positions.  Governor Patrick and his associates are definitely paying attention to what is posted there and how much support it gets.  Today I created a post about the Safer Alternatives bill.  Please help to promote it by going to the site and affirming your support for this issue.  Here is the link to get directly there:

When you get there, click on the box that says "support this issue."  You can add a comment if you like.  In order to do it, you have to create an account.  It should prompt you to do that.  It's easy; all you have to do is enter your email address, a little more information, and create a password.  (If you used the Community Tool during the Patrick campaign you already have an account. Use the email address and password you had then.)

Thank you in advance for your support!

A big THANKS to everyone who has helped to make our programs bigger and better.
