Who: Clark University Recycling program. Dump & Run, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to turning college student trash into useable goods

What: Reuse/Recycle Sale on the corner of Woodland and Charlotte Streets in Worcester

When: Saturday and Sunday, September 8 & 9 from 9AM to 3PM

Subject: It is estimated that every college student throws out 640 pounds of trash annually But a group of concerned members of the Clark University community is working to prevent what is left behind from ending up in the landfill by selling "trash" for charity!

Donations go through JustGive, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to increase charitable giving by connecting people with the charities and causes they care most about.  

Slow Food Gala
A special meal in celebration of local, organic food

When:  Friday, October 26
6pm: Cocktails
7pm: Dinner

Where:  Lower Kimball Hall, College of the Holy Cross

Join us for a sumptuous meal in celebration of local, organic food! All proceeds will benefit the REC's UGROW and YouthGROW gardening programs. Please come prepared to savor your meal; slow food takes time to prepare and eat.

Here is just a taste of the gourmet, five-course menu (prepared by chef Marty Dudek and his staff): 

-Pumkin Bisque
-Vermont Cheddar and Cortland Apple Puff Pastry with Cider Vinegar Reduction
-Fresh Roasted Turkey with Cranberry Stuffing OR
-Pan-Seared Tofu with a Green Curry Coconut Sauce

All menu items will be prepared using only seasonal ingredients that are locally and/or organically grown. Some menu items will be prepared using vegetables from the REC's YouthGROW Farm (located in the Main South neighborhood of Worcester).

$100: Slow Food Patron (includes a membership to REC) 
$85: Slow Food Friend
$75: REC Members

Seed Saving Workshop TOMORROW!

When: Saturday, September 8 10am-12pm

Where: YouthGROW Farm, 63 Oread Street

The workshop is free and open to anyone interested.  All skill levels of gardeners and seed savers are welcome.  Rebecca Munro and the fabulous farmers from Heifer International’s Overlook Farm in Rutland will be leading the workshop.

We will frame the workshop/discussion as an introduction to seed saving and will assume no previous experience but if you have knowledge and experience please come and help share!  We will go over the basics of seed saving popular garden vegetable varieties such as tomatoes, beans and corn. 

Community and home gardeners across Worcester are encouraged to partake the workshop so they can save seeds this year  from their gardens and then bring a sampling to the Spring Garden Forum in March for a free exchange with other gardeners!
