Trail InformationNew trail has been created next to the Cascades Falls as an alternative access to the top of the falls.Trail bridge where the Newton Trail crosses Cascades Brook has been replaced. We ask that hikers and visitors please refrain from damming Cascades Brook as it disrupts the ecology of the brook. The Meadow Ridge Trail where it breaks off from the Silver Spring Trail has been relocated for erosion control and revegetation purposes. The new trail cuts now uses cutbacks along the hill side to prevent further ersosion problems. Please stay off of the closed trail so it may revegetate. The same Red Triangle blazes are still in use. The Upper Portion of the Meadow Ridge Trail at the Howard Street trail head has been temporarily closed for a Silvaculture: "This timber harvesting is part of a careful plan to improve habitat diversity for wildlife and produce wood products. The objective is to promote species (such as oak and cherry) that produce valuable wildlife food (mast) and useful wood products while discriminating against non-native invasive species (such as Norway maple and buckthorn). It is our intention to manage some areas specifically for wildlife habitat through periodic mowing of cleared areas in order to maintain permanent herbaceous and shrub vegetation. Similarly, some areas will be maintained as mature forest. The logging crew is following best management practices for protecting streams and wetlands." This segment of the Meadow Ridge trail will be open later this summer. For more information on this Silvaculture check out the Greater Worcester Land Trust web site.
